Smoke Castles

This piece is a reflection on my survival of an abusive relationship and the psychological architecture I had to dismantle in order to reclaim myself. The term “shadow castles” speaks to the illusions we build in darkness – structures of hope, fantasy, and future promises that appear radiant from a distance, while the tangled forms and obscured face embody the distortion, confusion, and fragmentation of living inside harm. This painting documents the moment of reckoning – when the dream of what could be , no longer outweighs the reality of what is – and honors the strength it took to step out of the shadow and into truth.
